It isn't Steppenwolf it's Iron Butterfly. The Song was released as In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, taken from the lead singers attempt to sing, "in the Garden Of Eden" while he was drung. It was the title track of their second album and lasted 17 minutes with an almost 11 minute drum solo in the middle, still holds the record for the longest intentional drum solo in a song on a non-live album.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida...Iron Butterfly. We so played that song to death in 1969 & 1970 it was the biggest party song ever. I had it on 2 albums because the grooves of the 1st record were worn out and I had to replace the album. Oh, it definitely got played!
