I am quitting my job and feel indebted to my boss.

My boss is very well connected in my industry and has presented me with many opportunities for career growth in the past. Much of my success is due to my boss' interest in my professional development. I can forsee many opportunities in the future as well.

Regardless, I have decided to leave and don't want to cause unnecessary stress for my current boss or coworkers.

I suggest you pick a private setting outside of your office to chat with your boss. Invite him/her for a light lunch/ coffee (do not drink any alcohol as it will alter your moods...this needs to be done with the two of you sober) and tell your boss that you need some time away to explore other interests or business opportunities. Ensure him that you want to remain in contact with him (and do...this is how you network and remain a friend on some professional level). If he has even an ounce of respect for you, he will understand. The career path you choose is ultimately up to you...and I wish you the best.

If you work out your notice with out poaching his/her customers,
then that will be enough for the boss,if he/she thinks anything of you ,they should respect your decision & if they dont then you should not have worried about it............As for your work mates,
thats all they are, everyone will say they`ll miss you but after a week i dought you`ll hear from them again, sounds sad but i`v seen it happen so many times................good luck.

If your boss is how you described him, he will understand your move if you'll explain sincerely why you decided to move.
