Most offer real money, but not for people who live in the United States anymore (thanks to our all-knowing and all-knowledgeable government). I don't think the sites themselves are rigged, but like a previous answerer stated, it is easy for groups of people to gang up on a table by talking on the phone or using instant messaging.

trouble with playing poker for free is there is no risk involved so it becomes very short games. I might as well throw all my money into the pot holding a 2 and a 4 since I can always just get more free money anyway.
As for poker sites being rigged, on the internet some players like to gang up on others. ie say you are playing in a table of 5 other players. if 4 of those players know each other and know what hands they all have then they can use this info against you perhaps encouraging you to bet when you shouldnt and them knowing their mate is holding a flush so not bothering to go any further etc etc and youre the only player at the table who doesnt know this.
I personally dont like internet poker for this reason.

You can make a living playing online poker, but there's no easy money. It's not rigged, unless you think that a winning player winning more often is in some way unfair. I think of it as investing rather than gambling, I pick the best hands and invest money in them. Just like stocks, the better ones win more in the long run.
You can see a list of sites here. http://www.church-of-texas-holdem.com/usa-friendly-poker-sites.html All allow free play and offer good bonuses if you want to step up. Meanwhile, with the USA fallout, they ALL still accept US players.

Well triplejack poker is all free and you can win prizes (not a scam) because triplejack has grown into a big community and the administrators put prizes for our power players. Like

• $10 Free Movies from Fandango
• 5 Free Song Downloads
• Free 1 Year Subscription to Bluff Magazine
• Apple iPod Nano White 2 GB

These are minor prizes right now but when triplejack grows even bigger, the prizes are going to get bigger and better. If you dont believe me go to http://www.triplejack.com/in.php?aff=13611-7076 and talk to viday, zenblender, or superchicken and they will straight things out for you.
