Get your facts right. The UK declared war on Germany on 3rd September 1939. Without any prompting Australia followed suit within hours. Any German who fought in the western desert and in Italy would have been fully aware that Australia was in the fight from the beginning. Further more, If you visit the British War Cemetry in Berlin you will find the graves of 223 Australian airmen killed in raids over that city.

I doubt it. Many young americans haven't the foggiest about WWII. You asked the wrong people.
Any German soldier who fought in North Africa, or any Japanese who fought in the Islands can attest to the fact that the Aussies were there and damned ready to send the opponent to hell with particular tenacity and expertise that is particular to Australia.
Men who received real respect from all military and all ranks were the
Australian Coast Watchers who lived in the islands and moved often behind Japanese lines to report movements and strength. They knew
what could not be taught and were therefore invaluable. Like the submariner, a breed apart but a necessary part of.
The important thing is that you know the Australian contribution.

Most countries only hear mostly about their own involvment in the World Wars. Here in Australia we only learnt mostly of the Australian and New Zealand involvement, and some about the British. Only thing we heard about the yanks is that they went and made Japan all radioactive at the end.

Yes they are taught in Australia about the war but they dont dwell upon it as they had little involvement as a country next to the others. However they did their duties for sure. Australia was split decision in ww11 and some sided away from Britain and sided with Germany (Nazis) in taking over the wealth of others for to the victor goes the spoils of war. Australia is a very extremely rich country and has an enormous amount of history of its own besides the wars.

It's not so much that "England told them to", it was more a case of Australians not wanting their country occupied by the Japanese.
