I'm a single guy, and everytime I go to clean the house, I find myself becoming disorganized with what I have set out to do. I live in a one bedroom apartment, but it gets quite dusty and the floors get rather dirty as weel. Are there any suggestions as to the order/routine I might take? There is a large living room, a large bedroom, an office, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a foyer. Best answer gets 10 points!!!!

the first thing you should do is set aside first the things that you need and throw away all the things that you think you might not be needing, start in your bedroom, the first thing first you have to do in the bedroom is to get through your closet.. arrange your clothes and separate the ones for the office, gym/sports, briefs boxers, socks, handkerchiefs, pants, jogging pants.. separate the clothes you wear the most from the clothes you doesnt wear at all( better yet put them in a box to lessen the things in your cabinet) always put the clothes you wear the most on top so that you will not be digging from time to time.. as you finished to fix your closet, if you have this vanity mirror, arrange again the things in it so throw the ones you don't need, it just add up to the mess. the thing is you should always arrange the ones that are hidden so that it will be easier for you to clean the ones that you see.. so if you feel so much laziness, you dont have to be stress out again on what to arrange first, because not all things were mixed up.. but if you have the energy to do it in one day then its much better, after arranging and organizing all your drawers and closet, you can start removing webs from the corners of the room using a broom, then you use a wet cloth with clorox or lysol to wipe all your furnishes, appliances and windows, have a big garbage bag on your side so every trash would go straight from there you don't have to throw it all on the floor so you will not have a hard time picking them up all again, jsut wasting some time again, after it if you have to sweep the floor to remove all the dust, after sweeping the floor you can change the beddings and then fix the bed, the last part you will do is get a pail of water add a lysol or clorox on it or if your carpeted vacum the floor, if not, use the water and mop to mop the floor, the use of lysol will help a lot.. if you have scented candles use it to make the room smell good..

then your room is finish...

in the living area, do the same thing you did in your room, remove webs, clear up the drawers or tables, sweep the floor wipe the furnitures appliances, windows, change the curtains and throw pillow covers, arrange the displays, and then mop the floor, add a little fragrance and walah done..

then your living area is finish...

then your kitchen, the first thing you should do is to clean up the cooking area with a scotch brite with water and sopa, then arrange the utensils, clear up again the drawers and do the same you did in the other areas of the house.. same thing follows in the office

about the bathroom, pour a lot of clorox and lysol on the tub and the bowl to eliminate germs then scrub it with soap and water and more clorox to remove mold try buying some products on the market.. scrub scrub scurb, then rinse, then let the bathroom dry, keep it look clean by changing or adding a shower curtain, the shampoos soaps should be organize try putting them in one side or if you have a lot try buying the bathroom organizer, then if you would like buy some bathroom rugs, but always keep them dry so that the bathroom will not smell bad or some molds won't start again... always have air freshener in your bathroom...

see that is just easy.. all you have to do is to start from where the things that you cannot see so that you don't have to keep on repeating the things you are doing because when you start to cleaning the outside and in time you clean the ones that are kept, chances are you are again messing the ones that you have cleaned first... always add perfume to the place, because a nice and clean room will always make you relaxed after a very long day...

happy cleaning...

First of all, dust from one room or from parts of a room that doesn't get cleaned often can drift to other parts of the home. It's important to address it all. "Good enough" cleaning isn't always good enough.

If you have hard floors, getting a swiffer or a dust mop and going over the floors once every other day will cut down on dirt. Place matts outside the doors to the apartment so dirt isn't dragged in. Take your shoes off after coming in the apartment and insist that others do the same. Once a week vacuum with a full size vac and pull your furniture out at least once a month to clean under it (more often if you have pets that shed).

I have two vacuums. One I use during the week that is light and easy to use. It works great on hardwoods and even in my kitchen (provided there's no water on the floor). I rarely sweep. between the dry swiffer and the stick vac, I usually don't need to. And it's a lot easier than sweeping.

As for the bathroom, after you deep clean it once, you can maintain it by wiping surfaces down once a day and mopping and doing a more through cleaning once a week. Wipe the inside of your shower out after your shower (while still in the tub) or get an automatic tub cleaner. Clean your toilet everyday. This doesn't mean scrub it. It means wipe the seat and outside every day and let some cleaner of some sort sit inside for a bit and brush it out. A couple minutes in the bathroom, even while you are getting ready for work can keep it clean.

Make your bed every day. It will make your bedroom look a lot neater. Keep your dirty laundry in a basket in your closet.

As for your living room, do spot straightening during TV commercials. Keep a waste basket near your seating area, near your desk in the office, in the bathroom, and in the bedroom. Line them with old grocery bags and keep them empty.

Keeping a clean house isn't always about routines, but about doing things when you have the opportunity. Do dishes as you cook. Bring emtpy glasses or mugs into the kitchen when you go in to get a drink rather than walking in empty handed. Walk around the house once a day spot straightening.

Make it easier on yourself by doing things when you get the chance rather than waiting until you have huge problems.

The best thing to do is one room at time, finish that then move on to the next one ...........

Firstly you should do a general tidy up, this makes the cleaning easier.

You should use a spray and wipe on your kitchen sink and benchtops every day for hygiene.

Then get into the wiping and dusting, and furntiure polishing in the rooms that need that.

Wipe over all the bathroom basins etc, then do the loo.

Always do the floors LAST, after everything else is done!

Try to tackle a room at a time for general cleaning. It's like the rules for a relationship of "Don't go to bed still angry," don't go to bed with a big mess to clean up the next day. Often you won't have time in the morning to clean before work, and you'll become more discouraged after work to come home to a really dirty place (the kitchen sink filled with dishes, etc.)

Plan on one day per week dusting/vacumning. If you just make it a routine, it will get to be just something you do instead of a "chore" You can also buy a lot of great products now that make your life a lot easier. Some of these are the Shark Vacumn for between big vacumns... it picks up a lot, but you don't want to overuse it because it can burn out.... it costs about $59, and it is chargable, so there are no cords, and you can just dump out the "dirt" after you are finished.

The other great one for you are the Swiffer Dusters http://www.swiffer.com/sites/en_US/swiffer/usenglish/products/dusters.shtml and the Clorox Ready Mop
http://www.clorox.com/solutions_readymop.php

These are easy ways for you to do quick cleanup between big cleanings.

Just don't try to do everything all at once. Designate duties for days of the week. Have the TV or radio on to keep you moving and having fun...

Good luck!

the best way that works for me is to sit down and think about the jobs that need to be done and what and when they need to be done. Friday give everything I did not do during the week. what ever works for you. write it down and keep the list someplace you can get to it so you can cheek. And stick to the list routine routine routine is so important. Then computer and other things you may like to do,

I go through the house and look in each room and make a list of everything I want done. Then when I get started I just mark off each room as it gets done. Then I don't forget anything. If I miss anything, that I didn't put on my list I do it while I'm there.

One room at a time. Do:
clutter removal
cleaning stains or spills not handled.
dusting (feather is ok, extensive ones a month)
vaccuum, incl the furniture one a week.
or floor wipe

For each, start in one corner and move around room. Have the radio on to have sometime to listen.

LOL----Just get started....that's always the hardest part for me....but honestly it does feel great when it's done.
I always do bathrooms first...cause I hate it the most...then living room dining room and bedrooms...and kitchen last...because all my cleaning supplies come and go from there.
