My friend works at a finance firm, and he is in a cubicle all day long. He tells me that about 7 feet away from his desk is a HUGE printer that has a constant fan that runs all day long in it. He tells me after a few hours into the day, the sound starts to really annoy him, and the sound slighty hurts his ears. He told me he tries to ignore the fan, but, it's too prominent. He's afraid to ask the boss to shut it off becuase #1) the printer is used constantly by others and #2)it seems weird to ask for such a bizzare request. My buddy likes his spot/cubicle, but he doesn't enjoy the printer-fan noise.

Let's face it...being for an extended period of time near a machine that makes a noise is unnatural- but, this is HIS reality.

Any comments, suggestions, or advice that I can relay off to my friend? It is SO well appreciated, becuase I really want the best for him-- he is a really good person, and doesn't deserve to be suffering like this.Thanks.

Well, you could try feng shui cures. Try putting a mirror up on the cubicle wall, facing this machine. This should help the sound bounce back and perhaps others will notice the sound too. If enough of you complain about it, maybe they will move it to a less populated area. I would consider complaining that it is hard to hear on the phone and concentrate. I would also suggest a walk man to drown out the sound.

Peace!

Being the office manager for a company, I'm looking at this situation from the employer's side of the story. The employer wants to do everything possible to keep good employees. If the machine's noise is bothering him, making it difficult to do his job, he must tell someone in charge. They have no reason to think it is a problem unless he speaks up. And something this trivial has been blown out of proportion in his mind, because if I was the office manager there, I'd find a new location for that machine within 30 minutes after he told me that it was a problem for him. He needs to give the employer some credit, they must correct the problem. But they need to know about it first. Try to give him the encouragement he needs to speak up. Good luck!

well, yourfriend seems to be in quite a fix. i guess what he needs to understand is that his boss would mind it alot more if his loss of concentration due to the fan's noise affects his performance (and this doesnt take into account his relatinship with collegues all day long coz of flayed nerves). my advice would be

#1. let him ask for the printer to be moved to a more central location than where it currently is, or ask for a temporary exchange with someone else. and give his reasons why. his boss would need to be a certified sadist to refuse.

#2. alternatively, let him ask for a replacement with a more humane fan/printer. his boss would weigh the cost and convenience of buying a replacement printer v/s moving it to a more convenient location, and my bet is moving the printer/changing the fan would take precedence(if he cares anything about his employee's productivity. iot would also save him lots of downtime resolving conflicts that shouldnt have arrisen in the first place.

good luck to your friend, and as a parting shot, tell him nobody will bother looking out for him if he doesnt care enough to speak up first

i've got met a pair human beings on right here that i in my view have clicked with and experience like on the spot acquaintances already. (((layla))) (((shell))) it is an recommendations-blowing question you ask approximately treating significate others the comparable as acquaintances and waiting for them to alter on a similar time as specifically circumstances no longer waiting for the comparable from our acquaintances. while i seem at "standards" or "standards" for choosing a boyfriend v. what i might "settle for" in a woman buddy or different buddy, it is not something alike. additionally, i will admit i've got long gone into relationships hoping so-and-so will end going out together with his acquaintances so often or end screaming each time we get right into a combat, and so on. My acquaintances on the different hand are no longer subjected to this type of scientific care. this question has truly made me evaluate this for the destiny, ought to I ever go out with each physique back. :-)
