The doc SWORE when my mom was pregnant w/ my brother that she was having a girl. I also had a friend who was told she was having a boy and had a girl. So they are not always right.

"Ultrasounds can't be 100% accurate for the sex of a baby because the penis or testicles may be hidden. Or the umblilical chord or something else may look like a penis. It is the best way to tell the sex though. And it is probably more accurate on the other things because those are tested in a different way. With measurments of the body part or other more accurate ways. The sex is determined just by what the person giving the ultrasound sees."

They're really pretty good, especially if the baby is cooperating, but there is a small chance that they can be wrong.

Out of all the dozens of babies that I know, only twice do I know of that the ultrasound was wrong. The best friend of my college roomate was pregnant, and only had one ultrasound. She was told she was having a boy, and when she delivered, she had TWIN GIRLS! Apparently, when they thought they were seeing a penis, they were really seeing part of the other girl!

And the other time, my boyfriend's parents were expecting their fourth child. They were told it was a boy, and were planning to name their second son after the father, and they thought it was a joke when the dr said 'It's a girl!' They ended up still naming her after the father, her name is Randi, but I have heard her mom mention that she kind of wished they'd called her something else.

My own ultrasound told right away that I was having a boy, and I sure did. But just in case, we picked out a boys name and a girls name.

One hundred per cent. Ultrasound uses sounding devices much like the sonar in submarines and vessels and the principle is much the same. To map terrains using bouncing or echo of sounds.Ultrasound, when used by an expert, can "map" an unborn infant in its mother's womb, thereby providing an accurate image of its features, which include, its sex organ.

I think the Ultrasounds do their job right, its the technicians that read the ultrasounds that can screw it up. I had one @ 19 weeks and they were right.

When the baby is a boy, it's easier.

Very accurate for males only.
