That is a very subjective question. Are we talking cars that are still in production? Classic cars? There are about a billion cars out there and some that are worth more than others.
There are a few cars that have only like 6 in the world, like the Porsche 962 - which is almost priceless. Homoligation special cars (like the Porsche 962) always have very low production numbers because the car manufacturer is only making them so they can race a better version. It is a very very hard question to answer - I can only give you my opinion on the matter.
The most expensive car in my mind would have to be either an old Shelby Cobra or an old Ferrari 350 GT California. There are other 350 GT Ferraris, but the GT California was made as convertible with a long wheelbase. Beautiful cars - I have seen at least 4 in person.

Most expensive production car that is currently produced is the Bugatti Veyron at well over a million. Enzo's are below a million so I don't know where the 2mill figure the other guy came up with came from. I've never seen a Panoz cost near that much either.

The "most-expensive" car in the world is the car, a person can not afford to buy! It could be a used 20 year old or new show-room model. Good luck!

It has to be a prototype model. Formula One car is according to me the most expensive piece of art. For a road car type, I Believe it has to be Cadillac 16, ( ever heard before, there are only 2 cars known to me)

The last time I checked The Panoz roadster was the most expensive production car. 1.8 mil
When It comes to custom cars you can spend an almost unlimited amount of money. Like a gold plated Rolls Royce Silver Shadow with Ostrich siln and oak burl interior with mother of pearl trim and solid gold wheels.
Thats what I'm talking about!!!!!!!

it depends on what you're referring to. most expensive production car? or most expensive car ever sold? or most expensive car in existence? i don't know about the last 2, but the former is the Bugatto Veyron 16.4. base price was listed at 1.7 mil USD back in june. it may be worth more now.
btw, the "diamond" mercedes mentioned above is not studded with real diamonds. they're actually Swarovski crystals.
