However, every name my fiance picks out i absolutly don't like and i give him the look of horror. we seem to have completley different styles. Any advice on how to compromise? because i feel like i am really hurting his feelings

If you just recently found out.... you have a very long time to go.

I always chose the names of my girls and my husband chose my son's name (I actually did, but when he was born, my husband instisted on Jr. - was kinda sweet)....

Congrats... INow... have to get out of this pregnancy section!!!

All I have to say is good luck!

I started off with picking Adrian Luke, and now I have an Eian Micheal!

I planned on naming my son Adrian, and calling him Ian, but my boyfriend was convinced that people would see the A at the beginning, and call him Andy. I did not and still do not think that Andy is a nickname that can be derived from Adrian, but I decided that it was perfectly fine to drop the A and just call him Ian.

Then, he decided that it looked funny spelled that way. He wanted an E, so I let him do that.

The middle name was a fight too, since he hated Luke. I agreed to discuss other names, but all he would suggest was Lee, his own middle name, which I don't like at all.

I made lists and more lists, but everything was vetoed, until the night that my niece was born. I guess when he saw her, it was more like 'hey, we're gonna have a baby soon!' and he finally agreed to one of the names on my list.

Again, good luck, and congratulations!

Maybe let him pick the middle name. It could grow on you as the baby gets older, and even if it doesn't, you won't have to call her that. Or you could write down your top 3, 5, 10, or whoever many names it takes to get some matches. But you do this seperately and then you both look over each other's list. The matches are ones you stick with, and who knows maybe you'll like some of his and he'll like some of yours. And good job at keeping your mind open, your little girl might not fit your first choice.

I'm in the same situation with my husband. We are expecting our 4th child. We have come up with agreement that he's to name the last two. He named the one before this and now this one. However, I've had a problem with the names he has come up with too. Either too old fashioned, or the meaning of the names is something that I just prefer not to tie my daughter into. (meaning of the child's name is very important)

He likes the name Courtney, most Courtney's are mischievous, chubby, etc. per the meaning and wouldn't you know I can't say I've haven't met a Courtney fitting that description.

Perhaps give him some things to consider when naming the baby. For example: nothing that's too hard to pronounce, nothing ghetto, nothing that's too hard for the child to spell; take until they are in the 8th grade to learn to spell, consider the meaning etc. AND if you plan on having more kids tell him he can name the next baby. OR, you give the baby the first name and he does the middle name or vice versa.

It's very difficult, I feel your pain!

My hubby and I had a deal He picks the first boys name and I pick the first girl. I had a girl first and she is 4 now and this time with this pregnancy I don't have to pick a name. But I love the names he has picked.

:) Here's what I did. We agreed on Ian as a first name for our son. But HE wanted a wierd middle name from Norway that I wasn't going for. So I got a book entitled "15,000 baby names from around the world" and I started off in the "A's" (I had previously begged him to allow the middle name to be Andrew). And I read them all out loud while he was trying to do something on the internet. Finally shortly after we reached the "b's" he said I could name him Ian Andrew if I wanted as long as I would shut up. Worked for me.

Together think of a strong name with character that will carry her through out her life in good times and in bad times. When you both have agreed on a few of them, put them in a bowl, pick one and keep it for her name.

Why don't you both write a list of every name you can think of that you like. Then after some time strike out all that don't appear on both lists. You should have a couple out of this exercise, surely. Good luck
