Anything before 37 weeks is considered premature. Doctors will usually try to stop labor to get the baby to at least the 37 week mark. I had my son 2 months early, I was at 32 weeks. He weighed 4 lb. 7 oz. He is perfectly fine now. A typical little 4 year old.

I had a premature baby- many years ago. He was due mid April- he was born late January. He weighted 1lb 10 oz. He lived for only a few hours on machines.
Anything earlier then 37 weeks is considered premature in the medical field.

A normal Pregnancy lasts 38-40 weeks. Depending onthe due date a baby born 8 weeks early would be at about 32 weeks gestation and would probably weigh 3-4 lbs.The baby's survival rate if born that early is around 90-95%.

I think the earliest for full-term is 36 weeks. I don't know the average birth weight for a baby at 32 weeks, but at that point they're just putting on weight. Their lungs should be good to go at that point. Don't quote me on that though, because I can't think of anything concrete to prove it.
