my sister was going to get married, he gave her an engagment ring that was about $2,000. now hes not rich. then they grow apart and they broke up. now my question is should she give it back. i have asked this quistion to my freinds and there are two sides: the men and the woman. the men: give it back. if your not going to get married to him then he deserves the ring back. the woman: it was a gift. now i dont understand that reasoning. to me thats like giving someone $100 to help me paint and they agree and then they say im not helping you and saying the $100 was a gift

ys give it back. A ring was to ensure a promise was fulfilled. It wasn't fulfilled. Accpeting the ring was promising to marry.

An engagement ring is given in anticipation of a marriage to follow at some time down the road. It is given as a token of love and more or less seals the deal. However, if the deal is called off by either or both parties, then the engagement ring SHOULD BE RETURNED to the giver. Your sister should show maturity and class by immediately returning the ring that she now has no use for. It is the same with wedding gifts. If wedding gifts arrive prior to a wedding and then no wedding actually takes place, the gifts should be promptly returned to the givers.

She has to give it back. An engagement ring is not a "gift" in the regular sense; it represented a promise that was made to get married.

Your example does not make sense does it? So why would u pay some1 100 then say it was a gift? OF COURSE your going to want it back! Women and diamonds.... always drama She needs to stop being a baby and give the man his ring so he can give it to his new fiancee,... in the far or close future

Give it back. An engagement ring is a promise to marry. If they aren't gettting married, then obviously the ring should be given back to him.

Unless he gave it on her birthday or a holiday, she needs to give it back. It was part of a verbal contract, and she is not going through with her end of the contract

I say give it back. There is no promise to keep so there's no point in holding on to it.
