I think it is one of the worst things ever to happen in our country. The preamble to the constitution gives us the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Eminent domain is one of the most serious attacks on our personal property and rights that I can think of. If someone does not want to sell their property the government should go elsewhere or give them a higher than market value. People are often forced out of their rightful properties with out the FULL market value and it should be higher than that as the people were not seeking to sell. NO one should be forced to sell their property for this purpose!!!!!
If for a road if is terrible, if it is for a "Commerical opportunity is should be automatically illegal.
It is a violent attack on our rights as citizens.

This has and is being used for personal profit by cities. That was not the intent of this at all. It was created so the government could build highways. Now I have seen it used by towns to steal property so it could be sold to developers to build houses. The rightful citizen who has paid their taxes each year was given FAR below market value and the city then sold it to the developer at market. Then they raised the taxes on the area as it had been "improved".

If cities can do this to them, then they can do it to you.

I think it was fine as originally intended; the newest interpretation essentially removes private property rights from the individual and gives those rights to government. Welcome to the wonderful world of Marxist Totalitarianism. We now have one foot in the door.
