so, why do people use the "n" word and all the words of similar meaning, when it has such a bad history & wrap. i especially don't understand why black people think they can use it when they are the ones who discouraged the use of the word anyhow. isn't that racist in itself? shouldn't word usage be equal among races along with everything else in the ideal world, so shouldn't we strive towards that?

JDJ- there is nothing wrong with hoping for a better future. in fact, without hope, why bother waking up each morning?

Jimmy Pete- you can't ignore what people say. you may live in ignorance if you wish, but i choose otherwise.

where did i say i WANTED to use the "n" word? i have NEVER called anyone the "n" word in any shape or form and i have no desire to do so. whether positive or negative.

by the way, it is not just a small group of black RAPPERS who use the "n" word. i HEAR normal black people in REAL life use it all the time with each other.

why do i get thumbs down for asking a valid question? i am merely being honest and hoping someone will explain it to me in a nice way. shouldn't i ask as opposed to remaining ignorant on the politics surrounding this issue?

by the way, the only HELPFUL piece of information anyone mentioned was that by using the "n" word between black people, it creates a more POSITIVE, new meaning behind the word instead of the purely negative meaning. unfortunately, it was the ONLY comment that person made that wasn't filled with anger towards me.

So then whites don't use the N word yeah right. I think the main difference is when blacks use the N word it is in a friendly way. However when whites use the N word is to show contempt and hate for another race which they always do. I do agree with you in some regards i don't think anyone should use the word. From what i understand blacks started using the N word to kinda take the power of the word away from whites i have been called a ****** by a white person and after i slapped the crap out of her i realized being called a ****** is not a good thing so i don't use the word myself what i don't understand is why whites want to use the word at a time like this it shows how much society really has not changed.

I do not agree with anyone using the 'n' word. It has an ugly history and is a word that I hope will fade into history in the near future.

There are no restrictions on the use of the 'n' word. If you want to use it, go ahead. I just want to know why? Who are you interested in directing the word at? Will you use it in a descriptive way, "these 'n' are at it again". or will you use it in a friendly way "What's up 'n'"? or do you plan to use it jokingly, "'n' please"? Why do you feel bad about not being able to use a word that has so much hate behind it? Is that going to move the world closer to racial healing?

Are the Black people who discourage the use of the 'n' word the ones who are using it? Are all Black people responsible for the acts of a small group of rappers? Blacks have as much control over the rappers and others who choose to use the 'n' word as a White person has control over the language used by Neo-nazis.

In ideal world, a lot of things would be different. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world, and I do not think that increasing the usage of the 'n' word by anybody will get us closer to the ideal world you are speaking of.

I personally do find it a bit irritating, but my perspective is that if you're part of that particular group, you're allowed to say it. I mean, if an African American called another African American the N word, then they know they don't really mean it just like if a homosexual called another homosexual the F word (all in a joking sense). See, if a straight guy called a gay guy the F word, I'd definitely say something about the straight guy's ignorance (and want to kick him... *cough**cough*), but if it's like what's portrayed on Queer As Folk (where they throw the F word around with a light atmosphere), then it's fine by me. Same thing with the African American; whites aren't allowed to use the N word, but someone of the same race is. *shrugs* That's just how society works. As humans, we USUALLY don't take it as a racist thing or a strike against us if a member of our own group says something discouraging about us.

Yes. Although your question sounds a bit angry with racist undertones.. I could be wrong but I get your point anyway.

It's so stupid that white pople have to go around saying the "n word" It's not even appropriate for them to even MENTION the word n i g g e r.
As long as it is not directed at a black person as an insult or used to refer to one then I don't see the problem. Why such censorship?

Black people saying it to refer to eachother, well that is their business, I don't understand it, it gets on my nerves. I don't think half of them understand it either, I think it is just something they use to bring themselves together, if you know what I mean. I don't know how to word it.

The late Richard Pryor while doing his stand-up comedies would use the "n" word over and over. Then one day he went to Africa and came back to America with a new understanding of the "n" word and stopped saying it during his comedy acts. I believe that what you are saying reflected his new found values of the human race. I hope that I said that right.

yeah it is bad and some blacks are trying to stop other blacks from using it but they way they use it is they are just saying that the guy is his buddy friend its used in that nature not in the old way. and plus it does mean ignorant so i do not know why they would want to call their friend that but it does have a different meaning then in the dictionary so. When they say it it just means friend most of the time anyway.

In Australia there happened to be a football player of considerable standing He called himself, as did others "****** Brown" the term coined because of a certain brand of boot polish called "****** Brown" he used on his boots. A stand was erected in his honour and was aptly named - you guessed, the "****** Brown Stand" Well the politically correct and bleeding hearts went so far as the UN to change the name of it Google ****** Brown and make your own mind up on how far is too far in the use of the "N" word.

Honey, this is not NeverNeverland! Try not to make people into something they are not. People do not care about history. It's nice you think the world should be "rosey" it never will. Don't look for an ideal society - it will NEVER happen. Its sweet that you want to strive for that.

LOL. TRUST ME, whites use the "n" word about ten times as much as Black people. So there is no need to feign oblivion and ask to reserve the right. It came from you to begin with.

Your right. People can be mean and ignorant no matter what is their race. I'm sure you heard that saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me." I disagree with that saying cause names can hurt you. They can damage a person emotionally and psychologically.
