I think it would be very smart of them. I think they should do so - "following the example of the EU and the US" how could they not be recognized and encouraged in a global community? I think the rest of the world has technology and resources that would help them overcome any limitations imposed. The only reason we are not using more alternative fuel sources is because the lobby's that govern our current resources are too powerful. Maybe a United Arab Nations would shake us up enough to start to move on some of these important issues.

Frankly, I see a lot of corrolation between american revolutionarys and colonists and the plight of the arab nations. I think that is why the powers that be are trying to make this a religious issue, when it is not.

Peace!

PS - Don't forget folks, the American colonies were individual sovereign nations before they banded together against their common enemies. Even the EU looked like it would never work - the differences seemed insurmountable.

If western leaders make this out to be about religion, then muslims will sooner find a common ground with one another and eventually will need to cooperate for their own survival - and then they will be angry.

Yes and no. you see, there are three basic types of muslims in power, the sunnis in the majority of the muslim world, the shiites in Iran and now Iraq, and the wahhabis in Saudi Arabia. Although the wahhabis are technically sunni, they believe in a literal, word for word application of the koran, this is where all the terrorism comes from. The shiites and sunnis have different doctrinal takes on muslim history, and both believe the other is blasphemous. Of course, the koran says to kill blasphemers, so their problem is obvious, they are never going to get along.

Both the sunnis and the shiites mistrust the wahhabis, with good reason, the wahhabis basically preach that killing anyone who is not wahhabi is a great thing.

What it boils down to is the simple fact that the 3 sects are as likely to get along as chickens are to fly to the moon, it just ain't ever going to happen.

A united Arab people will be a force to reckon with because they have oil and money to buy arms. That is the reason why the superpowers are polarizing the Middle East countries so that they will not use oil as a bargaining tool.

There have been attempts to merge some Arab countries. It has always failed. My guess is that it won't succeed in the foreseeable future. Since I can't name a single export from any Arab country other than oil & gas, which westerners had to show them how to get out of the ground, I don't think the world has much to fear from them technologically. They do cooperate in the promotion of terror & that is a concern for all of civilization.

Some fear so called 'Shiite crescent'. It's Shiite concentrated region accross middle east from Iran to Palestine and Iraq in between which now has Shiite dominant gov. This worries people because groups like Hamas and Hezbolah are Shiite and Iran(Shiite) hates Israel and the US. There is danger Iraq could fall into bad influences of its Shiite neighbors. There is too much tension for them to be united, but this Shiite crescent may cause trouble for us and Israel in future. The US probably knows this and trying desperately to have Iraqi gov establish itself as US ally therefore giving us more control of energy source away from Iran and other outlaw Shiites.

This is a question / thought, that only world leaders of ALL countries in responsible positions of political and administrative (governmental) authority OUGHT TO PONDER OVER. Even the United Nations ought to "brainstorm" the issue (highlighted in your question) with heads of member nations.

LOL!! Yes, they have the oil and the money, but UNITED? Have you heard of OPEC?

If they can't unite their own country, how in the heck do you think they can unite with all of them?
