The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem. This is a quote by someone brilliant. Do you agree? Could trying a little harder to be tolerant of our obvious political differences bring us to the point of intelligent debate? I think yes. Peace to you from frogspeaceflower.

Quite right but human nature super cedes anything else. Those who are in a position to do something are incompetents and those who can do something don't have the power. Its a very unfortunate situation. Personally i don't have the power to change things but i would be more than willing to take the first step to bridge our differences. Through the Internet the citizens of the world should communicate directly to clear any mis-understandings and mend broken bridges. Its never too late to start. Politicians have added fuel to fire with have truths and out right lies.

Sadly in the U.S. the trend is to test our basest capabilities, not our best. The question asked here is, "How can a human being be capable of such atrocious behavior?"
As I get older my optimism concerning man's desire to better himself diminishes.
There was a time when it felt possible for mankind to have a common goal, even if it was ambiguous. It seems less likely now.
Sorry....

I agree completely. If people actually listened to each other and tried to understand why they feel differently, it would be a very helpful first step. Unfortunately, many people's egos don't permit them to acknowledge that someone who disagrees with them just might have a point.

... I think if everyone just didn't try to screw each other over...it would be enough to solve the world's problems...

I think all those people that screw things up, take a lot away from those that are doing good things, so if those people just stop doing bad stuff... it would go a long ways...

What I understand is that when there is a lack of intelligent, evidence, or proof that is when you get the name calling or generalizations to protect the father figure.
