I don't recommend getting lost in the details about Mac OS X Server Workgroup Management. That is for someone who is using a Mac as a network server with OS X Server operating system installed. And don't start combing through the discussions forum. It is really quite simple. For your client Mac, try this article from Apple for simply renaming the Workgroup:
