interesting answers here but will add my two cents worth. since the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body then left handed people are the ones in their right minds.

At one time, yes. Simply because being left handed was so unusual. Their logic was that firs, since most people were right handed, and most people were the children of God, then those that were different (left handed) were the children of Satan. Second since the opposite of right is wrong, and since everything that was right is good, then the left hadn, being oposite to the right was the opposite of good, or evil. That is the origin of the word sinister which originally meant left handed and since the left hadn was evil then sinister became synoymous with the term.

That is the origin of the concept of something bein done in a "left handed way" . That is, being done in a way that is intrinsicly wrong, like a left handed compliment. In stead of saying, "Hey, have you lost weight?" A left handed compliment would be more like, "Hey, you're not as fat as you used to be."

I have four children, two left handed and two right handed.
The lefty's are easy going, kind and loving.
The rightys, not so easy, loving or kind.
In my opinion, lefty's are not the children of satan. That's just an old wives tale, something made up, because they couldn't understand why the few would favor their left hand for writing.

My mom's fiance hates nuns because they hit his left hand hard with a ruler in the Sixties; my wife was forced to write right-handed in the Soviet Union in the 1980s. Both are ambidextrous, and both hate writing by hand now.

Yes. Same as children with physical or mental disabilities. People, at that time, believed that children born like that were a bad omen, and the gods of the time were not appeased. Most were killed or sacrificed to please the gods and bring the settlement good luck such as good crops etc.

Hello- They were thought of not being right, by that I mean they were thought as not being good. They tried to change my Sister( she is left handed) It did not work. There is nothing wrong being left handed.Just silly people!
