I would call Planned Parenthood & talk to a counselor.
I think 17teen is old enough to give them a call.
Sometimes women take birth control to regulate their period.

You should go to the ob/gyn. My friend has the same problem as yours and she went to an ob/gyn. The ob recommended her to take pills (the one which they use to prevent pregnancy). It has an effect in your body that can normalize the menstruation. Then my bf's sister has the same problem. She's getting her period twice a year. I ask her what's her medication? She said her ob told her to take pills like what i am telling you. I dont know how to use pills. But you should take it everyday as if your preventing yourself from getting pregnant. Now my bf's sister is having her period every month. But unfortunately my friend get worse because she told me she didnt take the pills because she's afraid taking any drugs. Now, she have to undergo blood transfusion and biopsy.

I did the same thing.... You NEED to go to a doctor...ASAP...She may need to be told by a school nurse or a ER doctor....This could affect your chances of getting pregnant in the future, and a multitude of more problems..... I had Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome...And It has caused me not to be able to become pregnant...my Mom refused to let me go.... And Now, I cant have kids..... You need to tell someone and have them speak with your mom about this matter... Your reproductive health depends on this...

I have a lot of friends who have periods similar to that and their obgyn's have all said that it's okay. I know it's going behind your mom's back, but there are lots of clinics you can go to and see an obgyn with out her consent. They can also give you birth control which would make your period regular.

Call Planned parenthood (www.plannedparenthood.org), if you cannot talk this out with your mom about going to a gynecologist. There are doctors who specialize in adolescent medicine, which may make your mom more comfortable.
