Both! And the choice should depend on the couple, not the state! \m/

SAME SEX MARRIAGE!!! we are human beings and Americans and we should have the same right as any hetrosexual. like "cokesnsmokes" said marriage is a religious ritual,(not in the same words),so i don't see what business it is of the government. what the hell ever happened to the seperation of church and state. or is that only there for when they want to use it or when it serves them. that was the big issue in Alabama not too long ago when that judge had a copy of the ten commandments in the courthouse or capitol or whatever. the gov. stated that if was a violation of the seperation of church and state act. so yes we should press on and settle for nothing less than equal rights. the african americans did it, so can we. do not get me wrong, it is not going to be easy and it will take alot of time, energy and gay power but we can do it.

Civil unions as a means, I don't really mind. But as an end, it's not enough. "Seperate but equal" is inherently flawed. Either we abolish civil recognition of heterosexual "marriage" and leave it strictly in the religious realm, or else it isn't restricted to the religious realm in which case EVERYONE should be allowed to have a marriage. I see the latter as the more likely solution, but I'd be equally happy with either. It all comes down to equality.

My opinion: Seperate but Equal is NEVER Equal.

Same sex marriage is a must. Civil Unions is just a "PC" way to continue a legacy of discrimination against anything "different" that this country, this nation needs to put behind them and rise above!

Civil unions with all of the benefits and legalities rather than "same sex marriage". Just a difference in terminology but each union...whether gay or heterosexual...should have equal rights.

As a Libertarian I believe that since marriage is inherently religious all people should have civil unions, and then get married before their God at a Church, Mosque, etc.

Isn't it amazing how so many suposed Christians are so interested in what we are doing on this board?
Did Jesus tell them "Thou shalt go forth and admonish people unlike yourselves. If they reject you, go to their places of congregation and harrass them. If they still will not turn from their wickedness, tie them to the back of a pick-up truck whereon ye shall drive until they are dead. If they still fail, dance upon their graves. Enact legislation that denies their love for each other. Treat them as ye would dogs, nay, better than that. Being evil, your own prurient curiosity mattereth not as ye are mine and therefore saved despite the fact that ye wish to peer into their bedrooms."

Whatever.

Same sex marriage as the civil component of marriage is not related to any religion. If it were, Justices of the Peace would need to be ordained. Keep religion out of the laws; it doesn't belong there.

Civil unions, with ALL the rights that heterosexual married couples have. Anything less is totally unacceptable.

I think Same-Sex Marriage is a long-term goal. I think that for now, the goal should be civil unions, which most people are more in favor of. Which means that it is more likely to pass.

Same-Sex Marraige is going to take a while to be passed, unless something changes in Washington (you know, like Georgie W. getting a brain...) happen.

lets just be realistic gay marraige will NEVER be accepted. if we can get civil unions we need to take it and quit whining.yeah its not fair or right but who said life was fair? we've made huge strides in the past 30 years but pushing gay marraige is backfiring on us. people who were on the fence or didn't care are turning against us. i wish the activists who wont compromise would just shut up. i for one don't need a piece of paper to validate my relationship.

Civil unions. Marriage should only be alloted for heterosexuals. Same-sex couples can get together, but the word "marriage" should not, in my opinion, be in the title.

Marriage is a committed sexual union of a man and a woman, involving their families, their future children, society at large and God.
