I want to add a directv dvr to my systems. I would rather have a non-tivo one. If its a rcvr-dvr combo can i swap directv from the rcvr to the new dvr

Yes, I use a PC to do the same thing.
Works flawlessly.
The only issue is getting you DVR to change the cannels if needed. Bu most digital TV receivers can be programmed to switch channels.

They have both standard and HD DVRs available. You can use the new DVR to replace the receiver you now have, or add it as an additional receiver. In any case, you will have to get a new card from DirecTV, as the card is tied to the receiver and cannot be swapped.
