Because it takes more time to research than to just listen to a "reputable" source. Older people do the same thing, for the same reason. Besides, young people are beat over the head with Don't Question Authority.

Peace!

Mostly because they look to older people to provide guidance. Many older people haven't figured it out either. Part of being young is being ignorant too. An important part really. Many kids are raised now with practically zero parenting. It's very hard for a child to develop his own sense of self and want to develop that self if at least one parent has never been consistently reflecting the importance of the child. If by the time a child hits the teen years, if he understands that his life has value, intrinsicly he'll want to try to chart the right path for himself. This is rare.
Finally, I think young people are trying answer other questions that can only be answered through life experience.

Learning is torture to most kids since they do it all day at school. Plus they don't get to choose what to learn about so often nothing catches their interest. After I graduated I started looking up things more and more just out of general interest.
In fact another good question would be why do some adults stop learning things? They often wonder about something but they don't even stop for a second to look it up. Like if I see some weird bug or plant outside I will go look it up and sometimes it's really interesting stuff.

Because of the "education" system. "listen to what I say and beleive as I tell you" is installed at the earliest stages of life through school. Think about it, really think about this, its not education. They tell you a bunch of things then if you dont spit back out on paper what the system has told you to believe then you 'fail'. So is it any suprise that young people blindly believe things? Theyve been systematically programmed to do it most of their lives. I think its a great time to be alive because more and more people are waking up to this fact.

Because critical thinking is a very advanced mental skill. It requires the ability to see things in a different way than they are presented to you.

If one is not brought up to use this skill, it can take time for it to develop on its own. Experience with things not being as they seem is a big help with this, and experience takes time to acquire.

It depends much on their environment.
If their mothers, teachers, neighbours... show creativity, then they would learn this great quality. More communities are now giving to adults this counsel.

What do you consider young?? I'm not "old" and I certainly don't do that. You can't label us all the same.
