just show each side being multiplied by -3 and then show how you got the reduced fraction.

First process x/3=4/9 By cross-multiplication we get 9x=12 =>x=12/9 =4/3= 1 1/3 Second process: x/3=4/9 Multiplying both sides by 3,we get,x=4/3=1 1/3 Third Process: x/3=4/9 Multiplying both sides by 9,we get 3x=4 =>x=4/3=1 1/3

- x / 3 = 4 / 9

1- multiplying both sides by - 3

x = - 12 / 9

2- reducing the fraction by factoring or long division
here i factored 3
x = -(3 x 4) / (3 x 3)
thus x = -(4/3) x (3/3)
due to the properties of factors (3 / 3) = 1
so x = -4/3
x = -(3+1) / 3
by opening the braces
x= - (3/3) + (1/3)
x = -1 + 1/3
now applying some make up and a head twister

x = 1/3 - 1
tada!

what the heck my math sure is rusty , thanks for the exercise.
