I don't know much about buying HPs--I've heard that they aren't the greatest though. I have the most experience with Dell computers and I would say it is probably best to purchase directly from them. That way, if you run into any problems with the order, warranty, etc. you won't have to jump through hoops and other merchants for support or returns.

I have found that buying computers from brick and mortar stores (circuit city, best buy, etc.) often results in a sizable increase in price over buying the equal machine online. Because you are buying a brand name such as dell or hp (which both have great service) you should feel confident that help from a circuit city employee will be of less value then calling the manufacturer's support system (they built the machine, they know what's going on). The only downside to purchasing from the internet would be that you do not first get to test the machine you are going to buy. But this can be overcome by looking at it in the store and then going back to purchase it online.

I think that you can only buy a new Dell online from Dell.com I would double check the models at Costco. Check the online price at Dell. Unless you can save 20% or more at a store on the same exact type of setup, I would recommend the Dell.
Dell doesn't build your computer until you order it. The ones at the store have been in the box several months.

I normally buy from Best Buy. My last desktop, I purchased from
Dell by talking to a Dell sales rep. over the phone. I will probably buy my next one from Dell. Mine is four years old.

Call Dell or go to dell.com and click products, then pick out which computer you are interested in,then customize it then to expidite your order, simply confirm by looking at that page, then choose how you wish to pay, then click submit. It usually takes threee to five days to get your new system by truck via UPS.

I have to agree, Dell is the way to go! (lol) Any place is a good place to buy a computer, only if they seem legitimint enough. Don't buy computers from dodgy looking places

i would say fries electronics or ebay. anywhere else would be expensive. sometimes bestbuy would have a huge sale where they sell laptops for 400, and you would definitely have to get there early or wait in line.
