You work for a chemical company and they won't pay for a professional programmer to make their website?!? Odd.

Look up HTML on the internet (w3schools.com is good) and open up a notepad and start bangin' some stuff out. You'll thank me later because sometimes website builders will hide the details from you so you never learn anything. They'll also make the code completely indecipherable so that it's almost impossible to edit the page without the use of the website builder.

The easiest way i know is to go to Geocities and create your own using their Builder, this is what I did and you can check my company website (click the link below) to give you an idea of what you can do. The other benefit is that it is free but with limitations on storage page (10MB) and file transfer, being that you want to create a commercial website those issues can be detrimental but it should get you started. It is also user-friendly and EASY to use and learn. I got my own site started a few years ago in about 2 hours.

First you should learn HTML. Even if you plan on using an html editor like Microsoft FrontPage, you will get better results if you learn the basics of HTML. Especially if you are going to design a site for a business that sells something.

Check out some of the website building tools out there. Coffee Cup software has some, see the resource list link below. You can even buy templates and customize it to your liking. I found that an easy way to learn to. You just have to make sure you get a decent one that's well coded.
