there are plenty of good easy beginner songs. i prefer bands like jack johnson to play on the acoustic guitar. lots of his songs are easy. also some rhcp sounds good on acoustic. i learned the zephyr song the first day i picked up an acoustic and it sounds great. alltogether though, jack johnson is great and you can find the tabs to his songs easily if u do a google search. also, brown eyed girl by van morrison sounds great. the chords in the song are G,D,C,Em and he switches around the order of them

I don't play newer music so I'm afraid this answer may be only partially helpful...but, many of the better music stores have a mix of current songs in a small songbook that shows the lyrics and chords for beginners. If nothing else though, pick a song and follow the bass line and sit down and figure out which chords should accompany the bass. Get you a Mel Bay chord book as well as it shows graphic illustrations of chords as well as a photograph of the guitarist's hand fretting the chord.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Don't try to play the solo though, that'll take some time. But the intro is pretty easy and the only chords used (after the intro) are G, C, D, and Am if I remember right. Just go to yahoo and search tab+"wish you were here". you'll get a ton of search answers.

Just learn chords and strum along to classic songs.

Michael Row the Boat ashore...perhaps.
