I've had great success using extension cords. Clotheslines aren't held to a common standard and might break during that crucial last breath. Look for the UL or Underwiter's Laboratories seal of approval on you electrical cords, and you'll be sure that the vic isn't walking away.

Clothesline will hold clothes better than an extension cord, based on diameter. It may stretch a bit, but extension cords will break.

Also, make sure the extension cord is unplugged if you hang wet clothes on it.
