It is pretty small in there at 38weeks. Don't feel silly, ask your Dr about this. The closer you get to your delivery date you will find that your baby is beginning to set patterns of wakening, sleeping, active, quiet etc. It's kinda cool to journal these because you will find that for the first 1-2 months after he is born it will be his pattern still. You should notice movement several times throughout the day everyday. Again don't feel stupid, discuss this with your Dr, RNP, or Midwife. Rest assure that for the next 18 years your will have plenty of other things to worry about. lol

Once you get closer to labor it does feel as if the baby is moving less, plus it is getting to be cramped quarters in there. If you do not feel the baby move for a while lay down with your feet up, if the baby still does not move, drink a pepsi (Sugar will wake the baby when it is asleep) and wait for a half hour if still no movement I would call your doctor.

As long as you are having some movement throughout the day you should not worry.

Babies do move less as they come closer to entering the world. I was always told when I was pregnant, if something didn't feel right, go to your doctor or to the ER if your doc is not available. It is best to also count the # of movements at least twice a day after 28 weeks. Once in the morning & once in the evening. Keep track of your time. Once you get to 10, stop your time. If under 1 hour, things are pretty normal. If you have reached 1 hour & haven't reached 10, lie down, have a snack, relax & continue counting. If 2 hours go by & still you haven't reached 10, I would then definitely contact your physician or go to the ER if after hours.

I'm 38 weeks too and I've noticed the same thing. my doc told me it's getting cramped in there and that there won't be as many movements, but they will be lots more noticable. He had me to do kick counts (should kick 10 times in an hour). If you're worried that he/she isn't moving, go have something sugary (juice, soda, anything) drink some water too, and lay down and be still, you should feel some movement withing 20-40 minutes. It works for me when I need reassured.

Congrats by the way.. message me if you want to talk sometime!

The first thing to tell you is don't sit there and wonder and write questions to Yahoo! Answers. Go to your doctor - if you are 38 weeks along, you should be seeing him or her about once a week probably. Call and ask the nurse in the office.

I know that sometimes the movements do slow in late pregnancy. You may have absolutely nothing to worry about, but for the safety of your child, and for your own peace of mind, ASK the DOCTOR and get examined to make sure. Usually sitting and worrying about a problem such as this is the worst thing that you can do because if there is a problem, you are not solving it, and it there is not really a problem at all, you are making yourself sick with worry for nothing - which ultimately is not good for your child. Don't wait. Call and find out, and get an appointment. (All doctors have services at their offices, or the hospital where you are scheduled to deliver that can reach them on short notice if need be - they are used to being called after hours and on weekends for emergencies or perceived emergencies (they are paid enough!) If they did not want to get a call on the weekend they should have gone into accounting instead of Obstetrics! Don't waste time worrying. Do something.

That happened to me, too. But as long as you feel baby a few times every couple of hours, you can rest easy. Be diligent and pay close attention, though. There's a reason they have you count. If you get really worried, drink a can of soda and lay on your side and just wait to feel something. The sugar should wake baby right up and give you some good squirms. Don't hesitate to call a doctor if you are worried. This isn't the time for second thoughts.

In my own experience I had this happen as well. after about 6 months I rarely felt my son move. However, because I was worried I went to the DR to make sure everything was alright.
As I recall you should count how many times a day you feel your baby move. Keep a record. Call your doc and ask what is normal and what is not.
In my case...my son was breach and in such a contorted position...poor little thing couldn't move!
But he turned out healthy just the same. Good luck and don't worry too much.

I wouldn't just take it as normal that the baby is slowing down as there isn't as much room any more, if you are worried go and see your doctor or the hospital and have a scan or have the babies heartbeat traced.. I felt the same at 37 weeks and felt something was wrong. it turned out that the cord wasn't working as effectively as it should have been.. I had him the next day as I wasn't going to take any chances. at 38 weeks your baby can be born now good luck

Yes bub has a lot less space to move around in now and movements are becoming fewer. Be vigilant though as no movement could be something the doctor needs to check on, never be afraid to ask the doctor to check as it is better safe than sorry.

I would say yes. The baby is running out of room and probably saving all energy for the delivery. I know my son didn't move as much up until I went into full labour, but if you are genuinly worried then don't hesitate to go and see your doctor. Follow your instincts they will not steer you wrong.
