I'd got with alternative(smashing pumpkins, STP, Bush, RHCP). Punk and alternative are not the same, and punk hasn't really been good for 20 years. Heavy Metal has way too many horrible bands.

Almost all alternative blows.
Punk rules.
Old metal (Testament, Iron Maiden, etc) is good. Nu-Metal is weak.
