My husband and I are discussinga second child. I have a 2 1/2 year old boy. I never cared about his sex as long as he was healthy. Now, I am leaning towards wanting a daughter. Actually, so is he. I have heard a few things about conceiveing before you ovulate...but can someone tell me exactally what it is you have to do and what really works. Thanks a lot.

the girl producing spermies are stronger (go you girls) then the boy producing spermies, meaning they can live longer in the correct conditions, so if you have sex before you ovulate they are supposedly going to live longer then the boys and get to the egg sooner as there will be more of them. Thats the theory anyways.

There is only ONE way to influence the gender of your baby---pre-genetic diagnosis (PGD) of the embryos. In this expensive procedure, IVF is performed, and the embryos are tested for gender. Only girl embies would be put back in you. Even this isn't a guarantee, although it does greatly increase your chances of getting a child of the gender you prefer.
No other methods will help you conceive one gender over the other. The theory you mentioned involves the idea that a sperm carrying the XY chromosomes will travel faster than a sperm carrying an XX set (Xs are a bit larger than Ys). According to the theory, the lighter sperm (Boys-XY) would be able to travel faster and reach the egg first. But these size differences do not really effect speed, and you can have a healthy, strong XX sperm show up at the egg much sooner than a weak XY. It is all just chance. That's why the birthrate stays so consistently near the 50/50 rate all of the time.
My best friend tried EVERY theory and tactic to conceive a boy--different times of the month, different positions, certain vitamins and herbs, and guess what she has? Three girls! She gave it the old college try, but unfortunately, unless you have the cash for PGD, it is all up to Lady Luck, or God, or whomever.

What the first girl said is right, but doesnt mean it actually works. I have 3 boys and one on the way ( dont konw what the baby is yet). Its all up to the man. He is the one determining the sex of the baby and I have heard that it is more common when you have a certain sex, to keep having the same sex. Which I think is true, because like i said I have 3 boys, and (hoping for a girl , but we will see) and I see lots of people with 2 or 3 boys, or 2 or 3 girls, etc...my friend has 2 girls, and another has 3 girls and another has 3 boys . That is just usually how it ends up being. Good luck with trying though.

I was once told that if the male thought about a girl while having intercourse you would get a girl. But in all reality, thats not true. It was once said, dogstyle would make a boy. .... etc... etc... DOESNT work... : )...... Most of the tales, are all things people have done, and swear they work. But in the real world, it is all up to the males sperm. He is the one that makes up the sex of the child. However, if you go to a wal-greens and purchase the sperm testing kit, it will tell you his sperm count, and if it is strong enough to produce a baby. The lower it is to the count, means more boys, the higher it is to the count, means of course more girls. I have tried this, and in fact, it is true, the higher the count, means girl sperms cells. I in fact have 3 girls. So, never let the man be mad at the sex, because he makes it up, not you. (wink wink) you can have something to hold over him for life...

To my understanding the sperms with the chromosome that makes boys are slower than the sperms that make girls, but the boy ones have more endurance... so the result is a boy is more likely to be conceived while the egg is further up the fallopian tube, while a girl is more likely to be conceived when the egg has traveled more along. are you asking if there is any way to make a girl instead of a boy?? Because Im pretty sure it's all up to the sperm, you know the x or y chromosome? all the other stuff such as positions is jsut a myth. Some of the superstitions are that if you have missionary than you will make a girl, girl on top or from behind concieves boys... im guessing these are all myths but hey give it a try.
