ok no you are able to desire to even have criminal marriages era. Civil Unions deprive the gay/Lesbian couples of the reward that married couples get, and the Civil Union is only provided in 3 state, and voided in case you do no longer stay indoors easily a style of three states. My thoughts is to do away with criminal marriages, and enable each and each individual legally have Civil Unions, and pass away marriage to the church.

Ideally I'd like to see the state out of the marriage business all together.
I can get married in my church and that is the most important thing anyway.
The problem is the state gives WAY too many benefits to married couples that gay people are currently denied. That is the problem that must be fixed.

I know there is a minority of gay people who do not think gay marriage is a good idea, but there are also a minority of straight people who consider marriage itself a defunct institution and would prefer it be wiped out. In the final analysis, marriage confers certain rights of immigration, taxation, property transfer, parenting, inheritance, and next-of-kin designation that cannot in this country be garnered easily without marriage.
This is both a philosophical struggle and a practical one, and as long as the only way gain access to these couples rights is through marriage, the only morally right thing to do is to offer marriage to gay couples. Any couple that chooses not to get married doesn't have to.

i am not gay.. however i am not against gay marriage or civil unions. I do not agree that it is something that is shared between just a man and a woman i believe it is something shared between 2 people that love each other and want to join their lives. Rather than being concerned with gay marriage/unions shouldn't we be more concerned with the alarming divorce rate? abused partners and children? homeless? world famine? war? disease ? just to name a few!

I am not against the idea, but what are civil unions? If they constitute a legally binding contract to safeguard each other's interests, then by all things sacred, I am totally for Civil Unions!!!
I only wish we had them much earlier.

I'm not against it. I'm realistic, we MIGHT be able to get civil unions in my lifetime (I'm 38) but we'll NEVER get gay marriage passed, and the more the activists push the harder they make it for all of us. its an issue i don't really care about anyway. i don't believe i need a piece of paper to validate my relationship. and i certainly don't need society's approval.

Things have changed. Recently, I was told by a teen in my life that I’d be surprised how many middle-schoolers already identify as bisexual or gay—apparently, they actually talk about it and use the words we didn’t even know existed when I was young. And, while queers and perceived queers continue to be the victims of homophobic attacks and torment, Gay-Straight Alliances are popping up in schools everywhere. Now, if we could just connect the good things that are happening in schools to help all of those gay teens who will kill themselves this year because they fear facing their parents or can no longer stand the bullying, before it happens, I’d be very happy.
When a large segment of our population votes for legislation that bars gays from marrying or votes to allow discrimination against gays, they are not rejecting “what I do,” they are rejecting me, as a person, and telling me I am not equal to them. They are rejecting me, a taxpayer who does not enjoy the same tax benefits or property succession rights, yet helps support the myriad of welfare programs that benefit those left in poverty because of heterosexual divorce and unchecked heterosexual breeding. They are rejecting me, the human being, by denying me the opportunity to create a legal and protected relationship with a lifemate of my choice.
This is the bottom line: Being a Gay man is not what I do; it’s who I am—to the core of my being. It’s not detachable nor is it disposable. You can’t legislate it away or banish it to Hell. Finding “the right woman” won’t work, it’s been tried. It can’t be cured and no amount of prayer will change it. You can’t wash it down the drain and you sure as Hell can’t put it back in the closet!
Every person who has the guts to walk out of that closet has family, friends, neighbors, teachers, employers, and colleagues who have the potential to change their mind on gay issues to a stance in our favor once they actually know/love/respect a gay person themselves. We fear what we do not understand. Put a face on their fear, so their fear no longer makes sense. Have your voice heard, help make us stronger—come out, come out, wherever you are!
Hugs!

I am, I'm against all Marriage. The 1st amendment says congress shall pass no legistation respecting a religious establishment. This is what marriage is and it is unconstitutional for our goverment to state or federal to reconise it. Civil Unions are a lot like a corprate meger. I don't have a problem with it.
