When on the web I may get redirected to another site or my mouse will hit a tab but nothing happens. I have to close out. I hear an occasional 'click' when shutting down or changing sites. Also, unable to close down computer as icons are unresponsive and I have to press and hold the on/off button. I defragged last week and things run a bit faster. Also, can be extremely slow booting up. Tool bar will appear on Yahoo home page and it stops there. I tab "mail" and it will go there. Any suggestions what I should check out before I get it to the Nerds at a repair store?
I have Norton, Symantek, webroot spy sweeper. all report okay

Have you done any antispyware scans? I recommend Adaware SE it is free and very good and I also recommend Spybot search and destroy also good and free. There is something malicious in your computer definitely. Go onto Nortons site and find a Trojan scan. Also go into your browsers cache and dump all, histories, cookies, the lot. Do you use IE7 or an internet explorer? Then don't. Internet explorer is full of holes for browser hijackers. I highly recommend Mozilla Firefox, if you have or you're going to get it I also highly recommend configuring it for further safety. Tools and then Options and then the security tab and set it to only allow cookies from the originating website only and only until you close Firefox and also to dump all personal information when you close Firefox.
Nortons is good, but all antivirus manufacturers have to actually know about the virus worm or trojan before they can make a patch for it. Good luck

Concurs – it sounds rather as hijack than hack. To be sure you could download this tool and check:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/PsTools.html

PsFile will show is anyone accessing any of you files remotely. You could also sniff ale you traffic with packet sniffer:

Free sniffer: http://www.ethereal.com/
CommView ($99, free trial): http://www.tamos.com/order/ (not free but much more convenient).
