It seem like people from this state have alot of teen pregnancies.....my 2nd cousin from my dad's side and some people I met online through yahoo 360?

I know that it's a world epidemic but .......

And they start families really young too! Like this girl I saw online...she started having children at 16!! And I looked at her profile and it has pictures of her four year old and she's expecting another child this year! What's going on!

G'day Caring45feelings,

Thanks for your question.

According to the National Campaign to End Teen Pregnancy, Illinois rated 31st in the nation for teen pregnancies with 87 teen births per 1,000 girls aged 15-19. It was equal with Louisiana.

North Dakota had 42 pregnancies per 1,000 giving it the highest rate in the nation. The United States average is 84 per 1,000. Washington DC has 128 per 1,000 girls so it has the lowest rate in the natio. Nevada is the state with the highest rate at 113.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

To address Maggie, people are not rude in Chicago, and you do not have to be that way to live here. Treat people like you want to be treated and you'll see that there are some really nice people in this great city.

Now on to teen pregnancy, if the parents aren't involved with their teenagers lives, the kids are more likely to get into sex at an early age. I've noticed that mothers who had their children young and out of wedlock have children who do the same. The cycle continues over and over. But it's everywhere, not just Chicago.

I had my son at 16, my two best friends growing up both had kids right after me and I knew 2 other girls in my graduating class that had kids at 17. I grew up in a "rich affluent" Chicago suburb. I think that some parents, are afraid to talk to their kids about sex and it doers more harm than good. Kids are learning from the wrong people. By ignoring the issue and pretending that it"won't happen to you" gives more of a pretense that you don't care than if you faced the issue head on and said, hey, this is what I want you to do, I don't want you to have sex . If you do, I want you to use a condom for more than one reason, not just to prevent pregnancy, but also to prevent disease and possibly save your life. Like the commercial says...Talk...they'll listen.

Life is a *****. People in Chicago are rude, obnoxious, etc. You almost have to be that way to live there.
