Oh yes! it is very possible! It is in fact frequent. What we call "truth" is not easy to pin down. Truth has many definitions. For example, I can give you my off-the-cuff estimation of truth at this moment: all that can be defended as comporting with reality. Ask me tomorrow and I may say, "Truth is that which can be maintained indefinitely as in full agreement with itself."
Most of the time we offer a summation, not an actual truth. To demand "the whole truth, and nothing but the truth," is to allow the sophist, deviant and conniving prevaricator no way out. It is appropriate to efforts at justice that we should give the prevaricator and the unscrupulous no way out - except, of course, perjury (which is more common than any of us would like to admit).

This means that you have to tell the whole truth, not half-truth or omitting something that would jeopardize the truthfulness of your statements. It's some kind of walking on a straight lane, there's not a chance that you step out of the line.

I can tell the truth to a question, but omit facts that would change the perception of the statement. For example, I could say that I saw a dog running around like crazy. But by failing to state that the dog was chasing a rabbit, I actually omited relevant facts that totally change the circumstances.

Does it really matter, because most of the people who swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth are filthy liers. Lawyers, Judges, Jury, thier all crooks.

the truth is the truth and it is not possible to do one without the other but with some fools you just have to cover all the bases

You can tell a truth, but then lie about other things, you can tell only a partial truth by keeping some information secret, etc.

There's no real meaning of truth. Unless it's passed by the particular person on the spot if not one another message will be totally different.

Truth could be only once.
The whole truth = means not to hide anything
Nothing but the truth = not making up any other things.
People are tricky.

yes its possible to one without the other, thats why they make you do it.... you could tell nothing but the truth but leave stuff out, you could tell the truth and also still tell lies, you could tell the whole truth and add some lies in.
thats my opinoin on why they make you do all three anyway....
but your talking to a 14 year old here......
