No answers like: cell phone, tape recorders, and other crap like that. I'm talking about studio stuff. Thanks!

If you have a new comp (2 yrs or newer), hopefully you have firewire capabilities, if not you can get one for about 50 bucks. But I would refer the PreSonus FireBox $300 high fidelity 24bit/96k recording straight to your computer. It is very similar to the M-Box used for proTools but less expensive. Comes with all the software, not sure how "easy" it is, since I have had a lot of recording expierence.
That's what I have and you can get studio quality sounds if you get decent condensor mics or you can go straight in with your guitar if thats what you like.
Two most important things in rec is your preamp (ie presonus firebox, mbox, mixer) and your mic (i use an audio technica AT3035), its always better to mic an instrument if you can avoid going in direct, just sounds too flat without a mic.

Tons of places offer the FireBox GuitarCenter, MusiciansFriend, zZounds.com, sweetwater.com... Hope all that rambling helps a little. Best of luck with all your recording endevours

EDIT: Actually this looks like a great package, comes w/ a good mic the preamp and even protools $799

try craigslist.org one of the best sites for just about anything that's not ebay. You could check out ebay but you better have a cc or a checking account/debit card. Also check your local paper. Always a good deal in the classified ads. Also check you mail box for The Flyer or whatever type of mail/classifieds you get in the mail. You should also check out cnet.com and see if you can download some free to try recording software. Then all you would need to do is get a soundproof room and a few mics, mix it all on the computer and bam spittin out cd's quick and cheap. Also check anywhere newspapers are sold for a local Bargain Hunter type of magazine. Usually around a buck and they have one of everything for sale. I wish you luck in your studio adventure.

Also I had a friend make a studio in his bedroom. We doubled all the drywall up on the walls covering windows (fire hazard but eh'..) and sealed it up best we could get it. We used four mics and connected them to a cheap 8 track and hooked it all to his computer. I think we also jacked in the guitars with splitters so the guitarists could hear there own stuff over the drums. ( each had a 50watt amp) Guitars went right into the 8 track and on to the computer. mics were for the two singers and two for the drums one high for cymbols and the other near the bass drum. Then it was all practice and hours of editing and retaking. Wish you luck. Damn I just wish I knew what editing software he was using. Oh well Good luck and happy bargain hunting.
