Economically Democrats believe in increasing political programs like welfare to help people at the bottom get a chance to rise into higher classes. They also believe in higher taxes depending on how rich you are. Thus the idea that the more you have the more you have to give away.

On other issues Democrats are pro-gay rights. Pro-Choice. Etc...

Economically Republicans believe in flat taxes, or taxes in which everyone pays the same amount. They believe that by forcing less taxes on the public the people will have more of their own money to spend on products or services that will give money to companies that will help the economy.

On other issues they're typically pro-life, anti-gay rights, etc...

According to my highschool economics teacher, the difference is supposed to be that Democrats favor monetary policy while Repubilicans favor fiscal policy.

Monetary policy is where you control the economy by adding and removing money in the form of government programs and taxes.

Fiscal policy is where you control the economy by making money more or less available by controlling the interest rates.

Which one is right? Who knows. President Clinton (Democrat) had Alan Greenspan, one of the best executors of fiscal policy, as Fed Chairman during both his terms. Maybe it was the balance that helped.

It's the difference between liberal and conservative. Liberal=Democrat Conservative=Republican

Similarities: All of them are rich; most of them white; most of them male.

Republicans don't believe in: Abortion, or anything that goes against the church. They don't believe that our environment needs protecting. They don't believe in gun control.

Democrats believe (but don't vote that way) in: Protecting the earth, a woman's right to her own body; gun control.

Basically, Republicans believe in total control over the people; and Democrats believe in no control over the people. It's the difference between letting the government rule you (Republican) or having no rules (Democrat).

They both have platforms they say they believe in but when it comes down to it both parties are for sale. After years of the Dems controlling the government the Republicans promised smaller government and accountability. But nothing changed not one thing they stuck more to the party platform with Clinton as President than When Bush took over. Reagan was able to be more Conservative with a congress that hated him than Bush has been with a Congress that rubber stamps him. And yes to you liberals I believe I would have been better off with Kerry as President. At least than Congress would probably act like they where conservative just to spite Kerry.

The republicans want small government concerning taxes & programs, but they tend to want to legistlate morality. Their motto seems to be "If something is immoral, it must be illegal."

Democrats want a big government concerning taxes & programs, but are quicker to stay out of a person's personal life. (Except for those areas where Democrats are trying to illegalize cigarettes) Their motto seems to be "If something needs to be done, we need to start a huge government program to do it."

I'm more of a libertarian. I want the government out of my pocket & my bedroom.

Democrats are big on social programs (welfare), labor unions, gay marriage, rights to abortions, globalization, teaching of evolution, protection of free speech rights for pornography, socialism, allegiance to UN, higher taxes

Republicans want less federal government, no big labor unions, against gay marriage, pro-life, America first, teaching of both evolution and intelligent design, restriction of pornography, democracy, patriotism, diminishment of UN influence, less taxation

Republicans have a moral compass and are consistent in our beliefs.
Democrats have no morals and polls dictate their beliefs - except on abortions and gays. They love that.
