If I paint my antique car will it lower the value even if I paint it the same color (dark blue). It has some rust and needs a new shine. everything is origional including the hoses. It runs good and has very low miles. (one owner). It is 25 anniv. car. I may sell it. Should I paint it or leave it alone.

It depends on how much you need to paint! If it looks pretty bad, I'd paint it, - however if it just needs some spots fixed and "touched up",- and you can get a real good paint man to paint it with origional color paint, you might consider going that way!

A real nice car with a brand new paint job that is origional paint spec. colors will definately have a lot of appeal to a buyer! Some people want to buy something that is real good, --and not have to raise a finger to get anything done! And generally speaking paint will sell a lot more cars than mechanical condition, ( this is backwards, as paint costs a whole lot less than mechanical restoration), -- but that is human nature!

On the other hand, if it is some special model, and body style, the buyer may want to buy it with the "origional rust", - so that he knows exactly how good the body is!

leave it! i am always suspicious of an old car with new paint, if the hoses are original ( yuk ) then keep the paint. try some por.15 on the rust but take before and after photos to enhance the value, with "collector" cars documentation is almost more critical than condition

In your circumstance, I would leave it alone. If you sell it, let the new owner pay to have it painted.
