Very true. That's why a patient with a rapid heart rate or in a supraventricular rhythmn, is encouraged to use the vasovagal maneuver, that is bear down as if you're making a bowel movement. This will slow down the heart rate.
It has an opposite effect on the gastro-intestinal tract. It has parasympathetic effects of increasing the tone and motility.

The vagus nerve does decrease heart rate, but it does not increase motility. That is how Elvis died, he pushed too hard on the toilet and his heart couldn't take it b/c of all the drugs he did and he died, he vagaled (sp?).....true story I am not being gross.
