Are they sales reps who have to either go door-to-door or do cold calling? What is an example of an outside sales rep? Just wondering because I'm looking for a PT job right now and saw this opening for outside sales rep.

Apparently, the word outside will give you already an idea of what job you are most likely to do. Generally speaking, sales representatives are personnel working in a company that deals with customers. They represent the company in such a way that they spend time selling the company's product to the market. The media in selling the company's product varies. Some uses the phone, house-to-house, personal selling, internet etc.

Outsides sales representative therefore is an ideal part time job but if you don't have the luxury of time, it's not really a good pic. Outside sales representative would mean you can work outside the company by introducing the company's product to the public/target market. You can choose which media are you going to use. (house-to-house, personal selling etc.) Your main objective as an outside sales representative is to sell the company's product. Be aware that most outside sales representative earns money through commission. No sales, no income.

Hope to be of help. Good luck to your PT.

Inside sales is when you are in the office and calls come to you, outside sales is when you go out of the office and sell. So yes, you would have to do some cold calling although if the company already has established accounts you could go out and call on them to make sales.

An outside sales representative does most of their work away from their office, going to where the customer is. It might not be "door-to-door", which to me indicates in-home sales. It might be calling on clients in their offices or shops. The main thing you need to find out is whether the product is something that people want. Don't waste your time trying to talk people into buying something they don't want.

Yep, you got it right. An example of a OSR is a pharmaceutical sales rep who calls on doctors and works on commission. Requires strong self-management skills and, obviously, strong selling skills....
