The problem is that you don't know when the period is coming so it is hard to figure out when unprotected sex is "safe". That's why condoms are popular.
I don't know where you got that idea about 3 days after. You probably should take sex education at school so you know what is going on. That rule doesn't sound like what is going on.

You read wrong. Generally, twelve days after the end of the period, the body releases an egg. There it sits in the Fallopian tube for about 7 to 9 days, then starts it's way down to the uterus to be expelled with the unused placenta, starting the next period. From the end of the period, you have about 7 days of (relatively) safe sex, sperm can survive for up to five days inside the female body. Keep in mind, only absinence is 100% effective, all other forms of birth control have a failure rate. Timing has an 86% effectiveness rate. Use a condom with spermicide.

unless the female is recording her basal body temperature there is no way to know when she ovulates. And since sperm can live inside the vagina for up to 72 hours, if you "skeet" inside her 3 days before the ovulates , or the day she ovulates , she will potentially get pregnant. The ovum, dies about 24 hours after she ovulates if it is not fertilized.

It's true that there is a window of opprotunity for conceiving, but the thing is, sperm can live inside her for up to 5 days, just WAITING for the mucus to thin and the cervex to open, hense, making it easy for that sperm to swim on up to the egg. (WOW that was a run-on sentance! Sorry!) I've gotten pregnant three times and at ALL different times of my cycle.
