I don't even know if I should be telling this story because we should not do a kindness and then talk about it, but this lady really touched my heart and I will not use her name.
It was about five days after hurricane Rita and the whole area was still in the dark and no one could find gas for our vehicles anywhere. My fiancee' and I was driving around in hopes of finding something open when we spotted a filling station with a lot of cars lined up to fill up. We pulled in line and were waiting our turn when a young man came up to our truck and asked if we would use our credit card to put three dollors worth of gas in his truck as that was all the money he and his mother had and the pumps were running on a generator and didn't have an attendent to take cash. We told him "sure, we would be happy to do that, wereas his Mother gets out of his truck and comes over and hands me a paper bag and a note. The bag contained three dollors in small change and the note had her name, address, phone number and assurence that she had counted out three dollors, three times. It also stated that she was a lifelong resident of the area. We started talking and she told me a little about herself and what she had been through during the hurricane. I asked if she had her own car and she said yes, so I asked her to get her son to take her home and bring her car back so we could put gas in her car. She did and we filled up her car. We wanted to fill her sons truck, but he would only take twenty dollors worth. Needless to say we did not take her three dollors. The lady had had more than her share of hard times and I was only too glad to help her. I haven't talked to her since the storm, but I think of her often and pray that she is doing okay. God be with you

someone paid for my groceries (about 70 bucks worth) because I could not find my debit card and they were behind me in line. I thought they were joking because she said, just put mine on with that and I will pay for it. But she was not joking.

so I said to myself that if I became well off someday, that I would do that for people sometimes.
