I am a BLACK aspiring writer/director and I don't want my ghetto azz name to over shadow my work - so I must change it.

Maybe if you keep your "ghetto" name and become a huge success as a writer/director.... you will be the one to remove any stigma associated with the name.

I think you should be proud of your ghetto azz name whatever it is. If your work is good then that is gonna outshine the name. But I agree with the person who said it sounds like a porn name at least the St.James sounding like a srteet. To me the Candace sounds like a white cheer leader in junior high school. Don't care for it. So if you can't come to terms with being comfortable with the name yo momma gave ya, then I would keep thinking till you come up with something better girlfriend.

Whoa. Candace St. James sounds like a made up name, honey. What's wrong with your name? It was given to you as a child and really is who you are. I hate my name, personally, but I can't imagine changing it. I changed it to an understandable version at 18, and had one heck of a time getting anyone to understand the change or use it! (I was named Marielana Graszia Ileana Vaneszia Zehandrovehri - or Earl Homer - depending on which birth certificate you look at, mom expected a boy!) Now don't you feel better?

I don't think you HAVE to change it, but I do understand where you are coming from since many people in show business change their names or adopt an alias to make them more memorable.
"Candace St. James" sounds fine to me though. "Candace James" sounds good also.

I knew a girl in school named Candace. She got "candy a--" every single day from other kids (not me). She had a really unfortunate last name too so she really got teased a lot.

Too much sss sound between candace and st............ sounds like "candace ain't" ..... pick another first name.... shortening to candy sounds cheap..... try a J name Jill or Jennifer or whatever..... then your initials would be JstJ or JsJ ....... just my opinion

Your name is what will make you unique and stand out from the rest. I'd say use your REAL name that way people will recognize you more. Even if your name is Baqueda!!!! I will remember that better than some every day household name.
