Do you think that there should be laws passed to abolish this practice?

It is dangerous. An overworked nurse who is exhausted could administer the wrong dose of meds to patients.

Mandatory ANYTHING sucks. You should not have to work overtime if you don't want to or just plain cannot do it (maybe physically, mentally, emotionally, or family obligations). When you choose your profession, you don't choose based on working yourself sick like they want you to. I understand that nurses are in high demand, but they DO need to abolish this practice because nurses are human, not machines, not robots, not miracle workers.
I used to work for a hospital in medical records. My hat's off to anyone in the medical field, but especially the nurses. They have the most work, and the most stress out of anyone there, even the doctors! I saw it first hand. That's a hard job just to work regular hours, much less overtime!

Where I live, Manitoba, and I'm sure many other places to there is a shortage of nurses and other positions in the health care field. With that said, a law shouldn't be passed until positions are filled up to par. I have spent a lot of time in the ER for asthma and other problems and I have had to wait while my condition got worse because there wasn't a nurse to even do my intake, just a reception person.

yes. the nurses for the most part are underpaid and do a lot of the work. nurses to have lives and should be able to have the same hours as everyone else.

it will be hard to do until there is enough staffing to keep our levels up and safe. then we wouldn't need mandatory overtime.
