Yes, absolutely.
When I was young it bothered me that I was about the only one in my class who didn't get an "allowance". My father didn't believe in giving "allowances" to children. I had to do certain chores like mow the lawn or clean the windows or paint if I was to be given any money. It bothered me then, but my father was right & I learned that you had to do something productive in order to earn money. When I wanted to get a tennis racquet that was a bit expensive I had to save up the money & not spend a lot of it on other things. It taught me to be responsible with money, and I'm now grateful that I learned that lesson.

Yes, helps teach them responcibility and prepares them for adulthood. On the other hand, one should try and enjoy childhood.
Some folks financial situatiion forces them to get work. If your family can afford to pay its bills, feed and cloth you, I'd recommend you focus on school. If you wanna get a a small part time job for extra cash that seems fine. There are lots of little part time jobs you can get that should not ping too much on your schedule. Eventually you'll have to pay your bills. Prepare now for the reality of "the real" real world. Good luck! Take care!
