Why is it okay to abort and kill a baby for stem cell research but it is NOT okay to kill a monkey or dog to test a drug?
What if we could only get stem cells from baby seals - would you still be for that?

Oh, they're against abortion...

... FOR PUPPIES!

AND, why do they always bring up the death penalty during abortion discussions... It's like they want to blame the victim (baby) and the baby gets the death penalty...

Cantcu: If you had to put that crap on your face and in your eyes, you might think differently...

Don't be such a dick. Mabye peta is against animal testing, but most people would prefer that an animal suffer side affects over a human. Not all liberals are against animal testing, not all are for it. I would like to see it used less frequently, but it has it's uses. As for the abortion thing, clearly it is differing perspective. You seem to think stems cells = killing babies. Stems cells are taken from a blastocyst, which contains 100 or so cells, give or take. From a merely logical point of view, 100 cells is quite a bit smaller than the number of cells in "a monkey or a dog". If you really think that is killing a baby, you need to re-evaluate your perception. Stems cells have value in the fact that they ARE NOT humans - they aren't anything, they are blank slates, which is why they are so useful for spinal cord injuries, organ damage, etc. But apparently that makes me a baby killer. Go figure.

First of all, if you call a blob of 8 cells a baby, then I can't help you.
You CANNOT retrieve stem cells from a baby UNLESS it is from cord blood or bone marrow. The stem cells many scientists are interested in are the ones that are only present immediately following conception. They are undifferentiated cells that have not yet been given a purpose. They are not the eyes or legs or elbows of anything yet, in fact they have the potential to be any, or none of those things. This blob of cells is not a self-aware being that feels pain (because there are not in fact nerve cells yet--remember UNDIFFERENTIATED) whereas animals involved in animal testing ARE in fact, self-aware beings that feel pain, and try to escape that pain.

I am not against animal testing, animals have saved many lives. I think a dog looks funny with lipstick on though. Yes I would, we humans should take president over animals and I do eat meat not tofu. And the kicker, I am a liberal.

I'm against abortion and against animal testing unless it is for medications; however, I'm for stem cell research. You don't kill babies for stem cells--you get them from the embryos that are destroyed any way. Why not use them to help the people that are alive?

Wow what a poor, angry, lonely life you must lead if this is the sorts of things you wonder about.

I am a Democrat and I do support animal testing for drugs, not for cosmetics.

As far as abortion goes no I do not support it, but since I am a male it's not my call.

Oh by the way baby seal stem cells would not work for humans, they have different DNA. Get a clue.

Ball of cells doesn't equate a baby which stem cells are harvested from. It has potential to become full human being but it is not equivalent to full grown human being.

It's like saying just because I have potential to kill someone with gun, soon as I buy a gun I become a murderer. I would become a murderer when I buy a gun and shoot someone and not when I buy a gun.

Eating natural foods, living in a clean environment, not having to worry about loosing our jobs, homes, marriages etc... are much more important to the, we care about people more than huge multinational corporations party.... those are the things that will help us live better and longer lives... as for testing new drugs did you know that a lot of them are made from petroleum byproducts?... we have enough natural medicines.

I am not a liberal, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. Liberals want animlas to have the same rights as humans. They have no clue as to what the stem cell research is all about.

Because some people care more about animals than people. Check out PETA for an example of this type of "thinking".

No one kills baby's you idiot! A Zygote is not even close to being a fetus!

George Bush is funding some types of stem cell research! Ask him!

Animals are alive, and breathing. Unless you are Bush and like to have people tortured, which I am agains't, animals should not be tortured for a cosmetiv manufacturer!
