As far as I know, you would have to use a password to actually make it secure, otherwise it's pointless. You can use a simple password that's easy for you to remember, but you still want to have something that's not easy for someone else to guess. I don't know how familiar you are with XP so I will be simple, so if you know this already, don't be offended. You will want to go to the Control Panel and choose User Accounts. Then you will select Change an Account...Then choose the account and choose to change the password. Follow the instructions there. Then to "lock" it you can either perform a contrl+alt+delete or press the "window" key on your keyboard along with the "L" key.

Too bad then! Want in one hand and poop in the other one and see which hand fills up first.

If you don't use a password, you CAN'T lock the machine.

You could go out and locate a smart card reader. But by the time you get that working, you'll wish you used the password.

you can't. Not to my knowledge anyway. What is the sense of locking it without a password?
