Is it really worth the money or are they really not??
I have had Norton before and they just seem like a waste of my money,to me they always kept popping up and then shutting stuff down when I did not ask it to. Finally I asked our computer guy at work and he said that they are really a waste of money and that they all just try to freak you out bad enough to think you will get a virus so you go out and buy the software...
I have never gotten a virus and then again I never open up any emails that I don't know who they are coming from.

What do you guys think??

Yes I feel they are worth it I have High speed and the company had a free security suite that I used and it gave my computer a virus! I went out and purchased Norton Anti Virus which cleaned up everything and now my computer is fine. I also do not open any unknown e mails I always have my virus protection on when downloading anything because you never know. So yes they are worth the money.

Not having an anti-virus program is a very bad idea if your computer is connected with a high-speed modem. The guy you talked to is an idiot. Get rid of Norton and go with AVG. It is completely free and will not bug you as much as Norton does. You haven't gotten a virus because Norton was preventing your computer from being infected.

Yes anti virus software is useful, and you can download free ones like AVG and AVAST to save on money. True in order for companies to sell software they hype up the threat of viruses, but the threat still exist, no matter how minimal. I could reason anti virus software is like locking up my house at night. I have never had anyone try to break in, so it's a waste of my time to lock the doors when I go to bed. I have been on the Internet since 1989, and have gotten three viruses. That is three too many, and one was such a nightmare to remove I had to reinstall Windows.

antivirus softwares are not fully follproof..
some virus can get away with a certain brand of antivirus, while some can be easily detected..it really depends on u if its a waste of money..if ur careful enough in choosing the files u open from the internet, i guess u need not any antivirus..

Since your traveling and using wireless I would suggest Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm lets you know when you are switching networks, covers spyware, virus, firewalling, port fowarding, Security Vault, Trusted Zones, Cache Cleaner, Program OS firewall. Too much to list. I've used it for 3 years now. It won't imbed itself to your PC like Symantic Products (Norton) making it nearly impossible to uninstall. John A+ Certified Professional

You should have a look at AVG Antivirus it is free, easy to use and has far less problems then Norton's AntiVirus. You can get a copy at www.grisoft.com just make sure you update it weekly.
