I think we should look after our parents after we start earning. I am putting it from a son's angle as daughters generally find it difficult to care for their parents after marriage. This can be done by:
1. Taking care of all their expenses and also giving them some cash in hand so that they can buy little things of their choice.
2. Integrating them within the family i.e. living with your parents or making them live with you, even if you are married. When the family goes on a tour or to watch a movie at a theatre, parents are included in the party. Remembering to bring some small gifts or souvenirs for them too when returning from a trip.
3. Making them feel as important members of the household by entrusting them with small and light jobs. Father can be asked to look after the studies of your young child. Mother may be requested to take the leading part in cooking a traditional dish while your wife assists her. Watching TV together or playing some indoor game with them. Eating together. They would love to do such things.
4. Generally their demands are small and simple. Being respectful to them and seeking their blessings makes them very happy.

An elderly parent will live longer and better with their children, fact than living in an isolated home with strangers. They will also get more attention at home that they deserve to get since they raised u. It is ur duty to give ur elderly parent the best quality of life possible. If sticking them in a convalescent home is easier for u because u don't have time to care for them at home then follow ur conscience and remember ur children will do the same to u. But if u care for ur parent and have the means to have someone care for them in ur home that would be the greatest gift u could give that parent and ur children will look at that if u could take care of urs then they should take care of u when the time comes.
Pls take care of ur elderly they deserve better than being put "away".

Your Parents in most cases do the best in their ablity to raise you to be a good human being, to have all the necessary skils to servive in this world - again in many cases spending most of their savings or a large part of it. To note take care of them - They need it or not is them failing in their first objective - The second part of how to take care of them is doing what ever is necessary to see a smile on their face - of corse as long it is reasonable

Yes, take care of them like how they took care of you, that's the basic responsibility of all children.

I try to spend time with them, bring them out for meals, buy things that they need, just do whatever within my means, afterall, they are our only parents & they worked hard for us and they are are old now, they do not have many years to stay around with you...so?

It looks like a bad thing no to look after of our parents, but its not optimum for the society or for anybodys life to waste resources and time taking care of non productive people.

Dont know how many think of looking after their parents.
But its the right thing to do. The way you treat them today, the same way your kids will treat you tomorrow.

In your lifetime you may have 1,000 friends, 100 lovers, but only
one mother & one father. Take care of them as they have taken care of you.
