The height of European success was not reached until 1985, when they won the European Champions Cup, but this success was largely overshadowed by the Heysel Stadium disaster that had occurred during the final between Juventus and Liverpool. Juventus repeated the success by winning the Champions League for a second time in 1996 in a penalty shootout against Ajax Amsterdam, and have not won it again since.

Juventus of ITALY have won the UEFA Champions' League (UEFA European Cup before 1992) twice (1985 & 1996). in 1985, they beat Liverpool of ENGLAND 1-0 in Brussels, Belgium. the match was marred by the famous Heysel tragedy with 39 fatalities. they claim their second UEFA Champions' League victory in 1996 with a 4-2 win on penalties against Ajax Amsterdam of NETHERLANDS. the match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time.
