Personally, I think the i-pod is so popular just because of the name. You're definately paying for the name of the product here. I would go with the cheaper one, which does the best. Just compare specs at the store, and if you don't see any difference, save your $$.

The format used by an ipod is very specific to the brand --MP4. Apple was very creative in their invention of the ipod. First, you have to download the exclusive itunes program if you want your music on your ipod. Itunes allows you to organize your library my artist, song, album, genre etc.. When you download music into MP3 format and bring it over to itunes, it automatically converts the song to MP4. Good luck trying to convert the Mp4 back to Mp3.Always back up the MP3 format if you want to play it in a different media player in the future. Most Mp3 players do not allow you to visually browse through your library created and create playlists. If they do, the idea was created by Apple and the cost of these would be close to apple's format. Ipods were originally created to work in conjunction with Apple's MAC computers. If you compare a MAC to a window's based pc (HP, Dell) You will notice that the difference in price is hefty. MAC's are always more expensive. Ipods are very sophisticated and Apple reaps the benefit of their invention by charging the steeper prices. MP3's and Ipods are not the same...they are not two peas in a pod. There are pros and cons to both. If you prefer pure music then go with the cheaper mp3 player. Especially if you convert from mp3 to wma format, that will essentially double the capacity of your player *since it halves the file sizes..*

If you want to play games, look at photo albums and watch videos then get an ipod. I have both.

I have a $30 mp3 player *creative brand* that I bought at walmart..256 megs of space and it holds enough music to keep me happy. My ipod nano was given to me for free by my bank for banking with them..it's alright. The cheap mp3 player is much easier to use, and since it plugs directly into the usb port it's pretty fast to upload music too. The ipod nano interfaces to my computer using a seperate cable...it is noticably slower than my cheap player is when it comes to uploading anything to it. Also since the cable is a seperate attachment, I am not able to use the ipod as a flash drive as easily as I can with my cheap player.

That being said, the ipod looks much nicer and the games like solitare are a nice addition if you're really really bored somewhere. If you want to use something that doubles as storage so you can take work from your work or school computer home with you, then get something cheap that'll do that.

ipods are mp3 players
ipods are made way better than $80 mp3 players
since you get 5$ a week it would take 40 weeks to get enough money for an ipod plus, you have to pay for tax
ask for an ipod for x-mass or something like that and if your parents are too cheap to get one for you, then say you'll help with the cost.
think about how much you'll use it b4 you spend $200

p.s. buy the extended warenty the batteries last a little over a year which is how long the free warenty is

People like i-Pod because it is hip. Their friends all have it so they have to have it too. i-Pod can only listen to MP3 and you need i-Tune to work. I would never get one because I everything I listen has to be mp3. if I get stream audio I will need to transcode it. It take up too much time. So if you want an mp3 player, you can get one that cost $80. If you want an i-Pod, then pay $200. You pay $120 extra for the brand name minus some functions.

Selecting a music player is pretty much like how you might pick out a new pair of shoes or a purse...basically what ever you feel reflects your personality the best.

If you are looking around past iPod you might want to consider a very tiny player with a nice screen like the Meizu Miniplayer. Here's some pictures of it. You can buy it by searching froogle or other shopping search engines for it.

For really cheap ones look for some like on this page:

Ipods do hold a LOT more songs than the typical $60-$80 mp3 players. And they look a lot cooler.

ipods come with sweet warranties
ipods work with itunes
ipods hold up to 80 gigs--far more than the competition
ipods are sleek and stylish
a baby could work an ipod
ipod headphones are of amazing quality
there are hundreds of other companies (not apple) that make various accessories for ipods
you should talk with your parents about getting maybe a 2 gig ipod nano, they hold about 400 songs, and won't break the bank. you could suggest doing extra chores around the house, or maybe if you make all A's on a report card...

for one, I hate ipods, i think they are well overrated. I have a creative zen mp3 player, it is much easier to handle. u dont need itunes, you chose whatever prog u want to use. Ipods are popular for the name. Ipod is an mp3 player, Ipod is a brand. just like creative, iriver, samsung, sony, etc... I recommend that you look around for diffren brands. Dont go with what everyone else has. I had my creative for 2 years now. and believe me no ipod can beat it. it has 60 gigs. another thing: Ipod are fragile, and sometimes you'll have issues with the ipod's software. They tend to freeze from time to time. Like i said . look around if you are planning to buy anmp3 player.

Because Ipod is the hottest trend in consumer electronics these days, not neccessarily because they are better than other mp3 players, but because everybody has to be like everybody else and get one.
