The Electron Configuration is the arrangement of electrons in an atom or molecule. In relation to the Periodic Table, the chemical properties, (i.e.characteristics of a substance that determine how it will react with other substances), of an atom are largely determined by the arrangement of the electrons in its outermost shell.

Electron configuaration is how many electons are in each shell. If the outer shell is missing one it will be in the same family on the periodic table.
